Leon Gugel

Leon Gugel has a diverse range of work experience spanning over several years. In 2004, Gugel worked as a Math researcher and assistant lecturer at Bar Ilan University. From 2005 to 2008, they were a software engineer for the Israeli Air Force, focusing on the development of Air Defense Command and Control Systems. During this time, their responsibilities included signal processing, stochastic algorithms, and geodesic algorithms.

Gugel then transitioned to working at GE Healthcare as an algorithm engineer from 2008 to 2014. In this role, they contributed to the development of algorithms for healthcare purposes. From 2014 to 2018, Gugel worked at GE Global Research as a data scientist, where they applied their skills in data analysis and interpretation.

In 2018, Gugel joined D-ID as a Deep Learning Expert, specializing in deep learning techniques. Leon'stenure at D-ID lasted until 2022.

Currently, Gugel is employed at Pangea Biomed as a Senior Researcher, starting in March 2023. Leon is involved in AI research in Precision Oncology, specifically focusing on drug response prediction using digital pathology imaging and genomic data. Leon'swork involves image processing, deep learning for imaging and omics data, machine learning on imaging and graphs, as well as bioinformatics algorithms.

Leon Gugel has a strong educational background in mathematics and project management. Leon earned their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Applied Mathematics from Tel Aviv University, specializing in the School of Mathematical Sciences, from 2015 to 2017. Prior to that, they completed a Master's degree (Msc.) in Math from Bar-Ilan University from 2003 to 2008. Leon also holds a Bachelor's degree (Bsc.) in Math & Computer Sciences from Bar-Ilan University, which they obtained from 2001 to 2004. Additionally, Leon obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Project Management from the State University of Management (SUM) from 1999 to 2001.

In terms of additional certifications, Leon has gained expertise in cancer biology. Leon has completed various courses and specializations on cancer biology from Coursera, including the Cancer Biology Specialization, Understanding Prostate Cancer, Introduction to the Biology of Cancer (with Honors), and Understanding Cancer Metastasis. Leon obtained these certifications in January and February 2023.
