Vajira Pathirana

Vajira Pathirana has a diverse and extensive work experience in the energy and engineering industry. Prior to their current role as Senior Director of Project Engineering at Pattern Energy Group since 2022, they held the position of Director of Power Delivery and Integration (PD&I) – Western North America Region at Hatch from 2019 to 2022. Additionally, they spent a significant part of their career at Teshmont Consultants LP from 2004 to 2019, where they served as Chief Engineer. In this role, they were responsible for various aspects of HVDC projects, including technology evaluation, cost estimation, specification preparation, bid evaluation, and design review. Vajira also played a key role in protection and control work, involving investigation of technical requirements, system modeling, fault simulations, coordination studies, and testing of protection relays and instrument transformers.

Vajira Pathirana completed a Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Manitoba, from the years 1999 to 2004. Prior to that, they obtained a B.Sc. in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, from the years 1992 to 1996.
