Surinder Chawla

Mr. Surinder Chawla is a merit-listed Chartered Accountant with close to 28 years of experience in Retail Banking. Prior to the Paytm Payments Banks assignment, he worked with prominent banks such as Standard Chartered, ABN Amro, HDFC Bank, and RBL Bank. Surinder has extensive exposure in the sector and has worked in all businesses of Retail Banking. Throughout his career, he has worked and led teams in areas of Relationship Management, Retail Asset sales, Direct Sales, Product Management, and Branch Banking. He has extensive exposure and built digital businesses based on data analytics and customer engagement.

As Branch Banking Head at RBL Bank, Surinder ensured a strong retail liability franchise which included building a strong distribution network, building the liabilities book with a specific focus on increasing the CASA base, acquiring the rightful market share, and ensuring that RBL Bank become the primary bank for all existing customers.

Prior to joining RBL Bank in May 2013, he spent about 12 years in various key and senior management assignments at HDFC Bank. In his last stint, he was the Head-Retail Liability Product Management for HDFC Bank. He was responsible for Liabilities Business Development and Portfolio Management. Within HDFC Bank, he has also worked as the head for the Southern, Eastern, and Northern regions at different points in time. Prior to Branch Banking, he gained extensive experience in Retail Assets Business as well. Before HDFC Bank, he was the Head-Sales, Credit Cards for ABN Amro Bank. He helped in setting up of Cards Product in the Bank. He began his career with Standard Chartered Bank in 1994, where he initiated the direct sales setup, which went on to become a full vertical in the organization. He has also handled the responsibility of Retail Asset Sales in the Northern region for Standard Chartered Bank.
