Wayne Phillips

Head, Cancer Biology And Surgical Oncology Research Laboratory at Peter Mac

Wayne Phillips has extensive experience in the field of oncology and cancer research. Wayne currently serves as a Member of the Board of Trustees for the Alan and Kate Gibson Foundation since May 2022. Prior to that, they held the position of Professor (Research) at Monash University starting from May 2020.

Phillips has a long-standing affiliation with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Wayne joined as the Head of the Cancer Biology and Surgical Oncology Research Laboratory in January 2000 and later became the Joint Head of the Gastrointestinal Cancer Program, Division of Cancer Research from July 2017 to July 2022.

At The University of Melbourne, they served as a Professorial Fellow at the Sir Peter MacCallum Department of Oncology and the Department of Surgery. Wayne'stenure at the university spanned from August 2004 to April 2023. During this time, they also held roles as an Associate Professor in the Sir Peter MacCallum Department of Oncology and the Department of Surgery.

Phillips has been involved with Breast Cancer Now, where they served as a Member of the Scientific Strategy Committee and Chair of the Tissue Bank Advisory Council from January 2015 to October 2021.

Additionally, they have worked as an Adjunct Associate Professor (Research) at Monash University from 2009 to April 2019. Wayne also held research positions at Western Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and the National Jewish Center for Immunology and Respiratory Medicine earlier in their career.

Wayne Phillips completed their Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Microbiology at La Trobe University from 1975 to 1978. Wayne then pursued further education at the University of Melbourne, where they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Immunology from 1979 to 1983.
