Luke Lu

Principal Architect at Petuum

Luke Lu is the Principal Architect at Petuum, a position they have held since 2017. Prior to Petuum, Luke was a Senior Staff Engineer at VMware from 2012 to 2016, where they initiated and led VDFS: a native hyper-converged distributed file/object storage system that supports scalable file/object/volume clone/snapshot for big data and container workloads. Luke also participated in the design and implementation of VMware Big Data Extension (BDE), especially open source Hadoop Virtualization Extensions. In addition, Luke has also served as a Software Architect at IBM Silicon Valley Lab from 2011 to 2012, where they worked on BigInsights with big data, and as a Hadoop Committer / PMC Member with The Apache Software Foundation. From 2010 to 2011, they were Principal Engineer at Yahoo!, and from 2016 to 2017 they were Architect at Cheetah Mobile America. Lastly, Luke was the Founder of Mountcloud from 2009 to 2010. Throughout their career, Luke has authored 18 patents.

Luke Lu received their BS from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and their MS from The University of Texas at Austin.

Their manager is Qirong Ho, Co-Founder & CTO. They are on a team with and Jayesh Gada - Engineering Lead.
