Dave Thomas

Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships, CMC at Pharmaron

Dave Thomas, PhD has over two decades of work experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Dave has held various roles at different companies throughout their career.

Dave started their career as a Scientist at McNeil Consumer Products in 1994 and worked there until 1995.

From 1995 to 1998, they worked as a Manager of Stability at IBAH.

In 1999, Thomas joined The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson as a Principal Scientist/Group Leader in Analytical Technical Services. Dave managed the analytical laboratory in Spring House and supervised 11 chemists at two facilities. Dave was responsible for overseeing technical service projects, including testing process validations, cleaning validations, packaging validations, and raw material qualifications.

In 2001, they were promoted to Manager of Stability Testing at Janssen and managed the Americas-based commercial stability laboratory group. In this role, they ensured all testing for the marketed stability program was completed on time and in compliance with cGMP regulations. Dave also led and participated in stability-related escalations and out-of-specification investigations.

From 2004 to 2010, Thomas served as a Senior Manager of Stability Sciences at Janssen. Dave was responsible for the Americas-based commercial stability program at two locations, Titusville, NJ, and Vacaville, CA. Dave managed a team of up to 20 personnel and served as the DEA Controlled Substance License holder, overseeing all controlled substance handling, inventory, and reconciliation sitewide.

From 2010 to 2016, Thomas held the position of Associate Director of Small Molecule Method Development at Janssen. Dave managed a team of six method development scientists and was responsible for executing chromatographic method development, validation, transfer, and investigation for drug product and API in development and life cycle management. Dave also supported strategic investigations for commercial facilities in the Americas.

In 2016, Thomas was promoted to Scientific Director of Analytical Development and External Alliance at Janssen. Dave led the US-based Small Molecule Analytical Development organization, overseeing scientific integration, method development, validation, investigation, and analytical transfer to manufacturing sites. Dave also provided input for the preparation and updates of regulatory filings and actively participated in due diligence exercises for license and acquisition potential candidates.

Most recently, Thomas has been serving as the Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships, CMC at Pharmaron since 2023.

Dave Thomas, PhD has an extensive education history. Dave began their academic pursuit in 1989 at Loyola University Maryland, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1993. Following this, they continued their studies at Drexel University, earning a Master of Science degree in Environmental Chemistry from 1993 to 1995. Dave furthered their education at Drexel University, specializing in Analytical Chemistry, and received another Master of Science degree from 1997 to 1999. Lastly, they successfully completed their doctoral studies at Drexel University, earning a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from 1999 to 2009.
