Susan Weir

Senior Research Scientist at PhAST Diagnostics

Susan Weir has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Susan is currently working at OpenBiome as a Senior Scientist since December 2021. Prior to this, they worked at PhAST as a Senior Research Scientist starting in August 2019.

Before joining PhAST, Susan was a Pathology Team Leader at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center from September 2015 to August 2019. In this role, they were responsible for leading the susceptibility testing and organism identification department and supervising weekend/holiday operations. Susan also resolved problems and prioritized work in assigned areas.

Susan also worked at Boston Medical Center (BMC) as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Technologist II from January 2013 to September 2015. Susan provided technical support, trained new staff, and ensured quality control.

From 2004 to 2014, Susan worked as a Research Assistant Professor at Boston Univ. Medical Center. Prior to that, they were a Research Scientist at Paratek Pharmaceuticals, Inc. from 1999 to 2003.

Susan's early work experience includes being a Graduate Student at the University of Michigan School of Public Health from 1985 to 1993.

Susan Weir obtained their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Microbiology from the University of Michigan, where they studied from 1978 to 1993. Susan later pursued a Master's in Public Health (MPH) with a focus on Hospital and Molecular Epidemiology from the same university. In 2018, Susan obtained certification as a Medical Technologist (microbiology) from the American Society of Clinical Pathology.
