Cal Williams

Art Director at Phoenix Labs

Cal Williams has a comprehensive work experience in the field of animation and gaming. Cal currently works as an Art Director at Phoenix Labs since April 2022. Before that, they served as a Senior Technical Animator at the same company from January 2021 to April 2022.

Prior to joining Phoenix Labs, Cal worked at Electronic Arts (EA) for several years. Cal held various roles at EA, including Associate Technical Art Director from November 2019 to January 2021, Senior Animator from May 2018 to November 2019, and Animator from March 2015 to May 2018. Additionally, they worked as an Animator at EA Maxis from November 2016 to July 2017. Cal also had two contract animator positions at EA, one from October 2014 to March 2015, and another from March 2014 to October 2014.

Cal gained experience as a Freelance Animator at John McNeil Studio from January 2014 to February 2014. Cal also worked as a 3D Generalist - Freelance at iBelieveInSwordfish from November 2013 to January 2014.

Before their freelance roles, Cal worked at the Academy of Art University. Cal held multiple positions there, including Animation Supervisor, Layout Supervisor, and Hair TD from May 2013 to December 2013. Cal also worked as a Writer, Director, and Animator from January 2011 to December 2013, Lead Animator from March 2012 to March 2013, Lead 3D Layout Artist from July 2012 to September 2012, and Assistant Director and Animator from January 2012 to March 2012.

Cal began their career as a Production Intern at CBS Interactive from October 2010 to March 2011. Cal also worked as an intern at Nightshift Multimedia Studios, LLC from July 2010 to August 2010.

During their time at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Cal served as a Teaching Assistant for various animation courses from September 2008 to May 2010. Cal also had an Animation Internship at MTECH Studios from September 2008 to May 2009.

Lastly, Cal worked as a Logger for NBC Universal during the 2008 Beijing Olympics in August 2008.

Cal Williams received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Media, Arts and Communication from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where they studied from 2006 to 2010. After completing their undergraduate studies, they pursued a Master of Fine Arts degree in Animation & Visual Effects at the Academy of Art University from 2010 to 2013.
