Xian Liu

Xian Liu has extensive work experience in the technology industry. Xian is currently serving as the Director of Engineering at PingCAP since May 2022. Prior to this, Xian worked at Alibaba Analytic Databases as a Staff Engineer from August 2015 to May 2022. In this role, they played a significant role in the development and evolution of the Alibaba AnalyticDB for PostgreSQL HTAP system, contributing to key features such as Multi-Master, Multi-Replicas, and Hybrid Row-Column Store. Xian also led the creation and construction of Alibaba Graph Database as the architect of the Tair Team, where they designed and implemented a distributed key-value store called Tair2.

Before joining Alibaba, Xian worked at Seagate Technology as a Senior Staff Engineer for a brief period in 2015. During this time, they designed and implemented an improved UUID File Store mechanism for the Seagate Kinetic Ethernet Drive, enhancing the performance by using splice technology and enhancing leveldb.

Prior to Seagate, Xian served as a Staff Software Engineer at FutureWei Technologies from February 2011 to February 2015. Here, they contributed to the development of an extreme high-performance cache sub-system for Huawei's next-generation high-end storage research project, filing patents for two innovative technologies. Xian also designed and implemented a cache simulation program for storage system analysis.

Xian began their career at Huawei in 2007, initially working as a Software Engineer for the IMS Solution division. Here, they designed and implemented an ICT convergent web system and mashup platform based on IMS solution. Later, they became a Senior Software Engineer and played key roles in the operation and management subsystem and the elastic computing subsystem of the Huawei VDI project.

Overall, Xian Liu's work experience showcases their expertise in engineering, system design, and product development, particularly in the areas of analytic databases, distributed key-value stores, storage systems, and cloud computing.

Xian Liu obtained a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Jilin University, where they attended from 2003 to 2007.
