Catherine Hughes is a Senior Hydrologist at Piteau Associates Engineering, with extensive experience in hydrology and water resource management. Catherine previously served as a Water Resource Specialist at Golder, focusing on water balance model construction for mining projects across Europe and Africa. Additionally, Catherine has significant experience in site-wide water and chemical mass balance modeling for mining projects in various countries, including Tanzania and Indonesia, during an earlier tenure at Piteau Associates. Prior roles include managing the Threatened Grassland Species Programme at the Endangered Wildlife Trust, specializing in conservation actions and biodiversity stewardship in South Africa, and working as an Independent Environmental Consultant. Catherine began their career as an Environmental Scientist at Golder Associates, managing various research and compliance projects, and leading the Climate Change Division. Catherine holds a PhD in Hydrology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, an MSc in Conservation Biology from the University of Cape Town, and a BScAgric in Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry from the University of Natal.
