João Gustavo Atkinson Amorim has extensive work experience in the field of computer vision and spatial analysis. João Gustavo started their career as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant at Universidade Estadual do Rio Grande do Sul - UERGS from August 2016 to June 2017. During this time, they also worked as an Undergraduate Research Fellow in computer vision, focusing on precision agriculture and developing methods for estimating wheat biomass using machine learning models and computer vision pipelines.
From December 2019 to August 2022, João worked as a Computer Vision Researcher at INCoD - Instituto Nacional para Convergência Digital. João Gustavo conducted research and experiments using deep learning approaches such as semantic segmentation, object detection, and classification. João Gustavo also coordinated a small team of undergraduates and created computer vision datasets and utility tools.
In March 2021, João joined GISCARUSO Tecnologia & Inteligência Geográfica as a Software Engineer, and later transitioned to the role of Senior Geospatial Data Scientist. In these positions, they worked in the research and development (R&D) team, focusing on geographic information systems (GIS). João Gustavo developed machine learning models, geospatial analysis, and computer vision algorithms for GIS data, including satellite imagery and weather data. João Gustavo also created and developed pipelines and data dashboards for spatial and temporal analysis of environmental risk assessment of power transmission.
Most recently, in February 2023, João started working as a Senior Computer Vision Engineer at Pix Force.
João Gustavo Atkinson Amorim completed their education in a chronological order. In 2015, they obtained a Technician degree in Information Technology from Escola Estadual de Ensino Profissional Dr. Solon Tavares. Following this, from 2016 to 2019, they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from Universidade Estadual do Rio Grande do Sul - UERGS. Most recently, they completed their Master's degree in Computer Science from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, which they started in 2020 and finished in 2022.
In addition to their formal education, João also obtained several certifications. In 2019, they completed courses in "Sistemas de Recomendação em Python," "Redes Neurais Artificiais em Python," and "Machine Learning e Data Science com Python de A a Z" from Udemy. In 2018, they earned certifications in various topics including Python, Vue.js, JavaScript, and Ubuntu Linux from TreinaWeb.
