Naomi Esken

Project Director at planblue

Naomi Esken has a diverse range of work experience in various organizations. Naomi began their career at HYDRA Institute for Marine Sciences in 2012 as an Institute Assistant. In 2014, they joined the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology as a Producer and later became a Press Officer. From 2016 to 2019, Naomi worked at the European Science Communication Institute (ESCI) as a Producer and then as a Project Manager. In 2019, they joined the MagnEST Research Project as a Consultant, where they were responsible for establishing a project consortium and acquiring funding. In the same year, they also began working at planblue as a Project Manager, supporting coastal management and building a global seafloor database. In 2020, Naomi joined Bund Für Umwelt Und Naturschutz BUND as a Spokesperson for the Workgroup Marine & Coastal Protection. Currently, they hold the position of Project Director at planblue, where they continue to support sustainable activities and climate legislation.

Naomi Esken completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Social Sciences, Media Science at the University of Tübingen from 2010 to 2013. Naomi then pursued a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Marine Geosciences at the University of Bremen from 2014 to 2016. Following that, they continued their education at the University of Bremen and obtained a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Marine Geosciences from 2016 to 2018. In 2013, they attended the University of Cologne for a year, focusing on Geological and Earth Sciences/Geosciences, although no degree name is specified for that period.
