Associate Director And Senior Scientist at Planetary Science Institute

Than Putzig has a diverse work experience in the field of planetary science and research. Than started their career as a consultant for GEOMANCER from November 1996 to July 2000. Than then worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Washington University from October 2006 to November 2007. After that, they joined Southwest Research Institute as a Principal Scientist from April 2007 to July 2016. Currently, they are serving as the Associate Director and Senior Scientist at Planetary Science Institute, specifically focusing on Mars sounding radar and thermophysical studies. Than is also the US/Deputy Team Leader for the Shallow Radar instrument on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

Than Putzig completed their Bachelor of Science in Geophysical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines from 1982 to 1986. Than then pursued a Master of Arts in Geophysics from Rice University from 1986 to 1988. Later, they enrolled in the University of Colorado Boulder, where they earned their Ph.D. in Geophysics, completing the program from 2001 to 2006.
