THE ROLE

As PlayOn’s Data Product Manager, you’ll be part of a team that will transform the company into a data-driven organization. This role reports into the Product Organization and collaborates with the company’s executive leadership to drive the data strategy. PlayOn is the leading provider of video content and ticketing for high school sports which makes this is an ideal position for a data leader. As the Data Product Manager, you will help establish the strategy for the data platform, prioritize the data initiatives of the company and drive change to help PlayOn become a data-driven organization. In this role, you will also be responsible for consolidating our business intelligence tools while enabling other functions to flourish with their own data analysts.

Key Responsibilities:

The Data Product Manager will play a critical role in developing and executing PlayOn’s data strategy. This role requires a strategic thinker with a product focus and a passion for data. The ideal candidate will be responsible for defining the data needs of the company, determining priorities, change management, and fostering a data-driven culture across the organization.

Data Product Strategy Development: • Define and drive a comprehensive data product strategy that aligns with the company’s business objectives. • Identify and prioritize data product opportunities to drive business growth and customer satisfaction.

Product Management and Development: • Lead the development lifecycle of data products, from ideation and design to deployment and continuous improvement. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, data science, finance, marketing, and sales, to ensure successful product delivery.

Data Integration and Utilization: • Orchestrate the integration of disparate data sources into cohesive data products. • Ensure data products are designed to leverage data effectively, providing actionable insights and driving business outcomes.

Performance Management: • Establish key performance indicators and industry-standard targets for data products. • Monitor performance against targets and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to maintain and improve user satisfaction

Team Leadership and Development: • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of data product specialists, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment. • Partner with the Director, Data Team on technical direction and overall strategy development.

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication: • Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of data product vision, progress, and outcomes. • Translate complex data concepts into accessible insights for non-technical stakeholders.

Market and User Research: • Conduct market research and user feedback analysis to inform product development and ensure products meet user needs and market demand. • Continuously monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to maintain a competitive edge.

THE PERSON

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. • Proven experience (5+ years) in product management, with a focus on data products or analytics. • Strong leadership and team management skills, with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams. • Expertise in data integration, data analytics, and data product development. • Proficiency in product management tools and methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, JIRA). • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex data concepts into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders. • Proactive, self-motivated and driven to achieve goals independently. • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on user-centric product design. • Knowledge of relevant data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and industry best practices. • Experience in a product technology company. Ideally in Media or Streaming. • Familiarity with AWS cloud-based data platforms. • Familiarity with data analytics tools (e.g., SQL, Python, R) and data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
