TAX MANAGER   

Polar Asset Management Partners “Polar” is a Toronto based alternative asset manager established in 1991 which manages approximately US$6.5 billion. The firm’s flagship fund, Polar Multi-Strategy, seeks to generate superior risk-adjusted returns with low volatility and a focus on capital preservation. With offices in Toronto, New York, and Calgary, Polar is currently seeking to add a Tax Manager to the growing team. 

As a Tax Manager, you will act as a subject matter expert on all tax matters on Polar funds. Reporting to the Deputy CFO, the ideal candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with the Investment team and key business stakeholders.

What will you do?

  • Act as a subject matter expert and key liaison internally (Investment, Fund Accounting, Operations, Compliance, etc.) and external partners on all tax related matters

  • Deliver industry and technical expertise relating to taxation through reports, interactions, technical work, high quality deliverables

  • Research, develop documentation, and respond to tax correspondence

  • Keep up to date on jurisdiction rules and any changes in regulations and tax filings to apply regulatory changes

  • Evaluate existing business processes and policies and advise on policy and tax changes

  • Develop proactive tax strategies that make effective use of business opportunities and ensure the process runs effectively

  • Responsible for the completion and filing of tax returns for Polar investment funds, including ongoing assessment and review of tax returns and filing related information forms, elections, etc.

Who are you?

  • University degree in Accounting and CPA/CA designation

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience at a public accounting firm or similar environment

  • Tax and accounting experience in the investment fund industry is required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability

  • Superior time management skills, with proven ability to work under tight timelines

  • High degree of commitment to quality work and accuracy

Compensation: Polar’s total compensation package includes base salary, discretionary performance bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package. In accordance with New York City’s Pay Transparency Law, the estimated base salary range for this position is $140,000 to $175,000. The actual base salary pay will depend on several factors, including, but not limited to, the individual’s experience level, the qualifications they bring to the role, business needs, and market demand.
