Shia Kapos

Shia Kapos is a seasoned political reporter currently serving on the national Politics Team at POLITICO since July 2018, where Shia writes the Illinois Playbook, focusing on government and political affairs in the state. Prior to POLITICO, Shia was a Taking Names Columnist at the Chicago Sun-Times and Crain's Chicago Business, contributing scoops and cultural pieces. Shia's career also includes freelance reporting for The New York Times, serving as a Midwest Correspondent for People magazine, and working as a staff reporter for the Chicago Tribune, where Shia covered significant events including the aftermath of 9/11. Earlier experience includes editorial leadership at The Salt Lake Tribune. Shia holds a BA with a double major in English and Journalism from the University of Utah.
