Marieke Hounjet

Marieke Hounjet has a diverse and extensive work experience. Marieke currently serves as an Investment Committee Member at Climate Arc since 2023. Prior to that, they worked at Porticus, where they held various roles including Director 360 Philanthropy: insight, inclusion and impact starting in 2022, Director Effective Philanthropy ad interim from 2021 to 2022, and Senior Analyst, Effective Philanthropy Group from 2017 to 2022.

Before joining Porticus, Marieke worked at the United Nations as an Associate Economic Affairs in the Office of the Special Adviser on Africa from 2014 to 2017. Marieke was responsible for developing a Global Monitoring Mechanism for international assistance to Africa and collaborated with key partners such as the African Union and the African Development Bank.

Marieke also held positions at the Partnership Brokers Association as a Company Director from 2014 to 2016, at Start Network as Head of Development and Partnerships from 2013 to 2014, and at Start Network (previously CBHA) as an Advisor for Knowledge, Impact, and Collaboration from 2012 to 2013.

Earlier in their career, Marieke worked as Coordinator at the Consortium of British Humanitarian Agencies from 2010 to 2012. Marieke was responsible for coordinating a collaborative program and developing the monitoring, evaluation, and learning framework.

Marieke also worked as a Researcher at the Institute of Development Studies in 2010 and as a Programmes Assistant in Iraq & Afghanistan at War Child UK in 2009. Marieke started their career with a Research Internship at the Overseas Development Institute in 2008.

Overall, Marieke Hounjet has a strong background in philanthropy, partnerships, collaboration processes, economic affairs, and humanitarian aid, with experience in both the international and non-profit sectors.

Marieke Hounjet has a diverse education background. In 2004, they began their undergraduate studies at University College Utrecht, Honours College, Utrecht University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences. Marieke'sfield of study included social sciences and argumentation studies.

After completing their bachelor's degree in 2007, Marieke went on to pursue a Master of Science (MSc) in Global Economic History at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) from 2007 to 2008. Following that, they furthered their studies by obtaining a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Global Studies at Leipzig University from 2008 to 2009.

In addition to their formal education, Marieke has also obtained an Accredited Partnership Broker certification from the Partnership Brokers Association in November 2013.
