Missy West has a diverse work experience spanning from 2001 to the present. Missy began their career as a Professional Basketball Player for the Pro Basketball Göttingen GmbH from 2001 to 2004. After that, they worked as a Physical Therapist Assistant at Northern Physical Therapy and United Helpers Canton Nursing Home in 2006 and 2007 respectively. From 2004 to 2008, they held multiple roles at SUNY Canton, including Co-Head Coach, Assistant Softball Coach, and Director of Community Service for Student Athletes. At Hartwick College, they served as the Head Women's Basketball Coach from 2008 to 2014, and also held positions such as Physical Education Professor, Game Day Administrator, and Personal Fitness Trainer for Athletic Teams. Missy was also active in various committees related to fitness and athletics. From 2014 to 2016, they worked as the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Saint Leo University, where they achieved notable accomplishments such as increasing team GPA, raising funds for program development, and coaching award-winning players. In 2017, they joined Positive Coaching Alliance as a Trainer, where they conducted character and leadership workshops for athletes, parents, and coaches. In 2018, they co-founded ORCA Leadership, LLC, where they focus on motivational speaking and consulting. Missy is also the Co-Director of Beyond the Game Academy, where they provide coaching, consulting, and resilience training for athletes and their families.
Missy West obtained their Bachelor's degree from Duke University, where they majored in Sociology and Biological Anthropology and minored in History. Missy attended Duke University from 1996 to 2001. Missy then went on to SUNY Canton, where they completed an Associate of Arts and Sciences (A.A.S.) degree in Physical Therapist Assistant from 2005 to 2007.
In terms of additional certifications, Missy West completed several courses on Coursera, including "Positive Psychology: Applications and Interventions," "Everyday Excel, Part 1," "Positive Psychology: Martin E. P. Seligman's Visionary Science," and "Mindshift: Break Through Obstacles to Learning and Discover Your Hidden Potential." Missy obtained these certifications between September and November of 2020.
Missy also holds the NSCA - Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT) certification, which they obtained from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) in August 2005. Additionally, they are certified in CPR/AED/First Aid, which they obtained from the American Red Cross in January 2020.
