PIK - Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research
Torsten Albrecht currently serves as the Theme Lead for Ice Dynamics in the Earth Resilience Science Unit at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) since January 2020, emphasizing the interactive coupling of ice, ocean, and solid Earth processes. Prior to this role, Torsten held multiple postdoctoral researcher positions at PIK from 2014 to 2019, focusing on high-resolution ice flow and ocean model coupling, ensemble simulations of the Antarctic Ice Sheet, and contributing to significant modeling initiatives including the German Climate Modeling Initiative PalMod. Additionally, Torsten has experience as a scientific expedition member to Antarctica, a research assistant, and a visiting researcher at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Academic credentials include a PhD in Climate Physics and a diploma in Physics from the University of Potsdam, supplemented with studies in climate science and oceanography during an Erasmus exchange at the University of Bergen.
PIK - Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research
At PIK, researchers in the natural and social sciences from all over the world work closely together to study global change and its impacts on ecological, economic and social systems. Researchers examine the earth system's capacity for withstanding human interventions and devise strategies and options for a sustainable development of humankind and nature. Interdisciplinary and solution-oriented approaches are a distinctive characteristic of the institute.
