Lead Security Engineer at Praetorian

Neel Patel has a diverse range of work experience in the field of security engineering and research. Neel currently serves as a Lead Security Engineer at Praetorian, starting in March 2023. Prior to this role, they worked as a Senior Security Engineer at the same company from June 2021 to February 2023.

In 2020, Neel held two positions simultaneously. At the University of Maryland - A. James Clark School of Engineering, they worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Grader for the course ENPM691 - Hacking of C Programs and UNIX Binaries. In this role, they delivered lectures, conducted practical sessions, mentored students, and assisted in exam preparation. Neel also contributed to course development and developed a Linux-based Ubuntu 64-bit Docker container specifically for Reverse Engineering Binaries.

During the same period, Neel served as a Graduate Research Assistant at the UMD Department of Computer Science, specifically at the Wireless Signals and Systems Research Lab (WiSSR) under the guidance of Prof. Nirupam Roy. In this role, they researched a novel technique called "Honey-Maze" that combined IoT honeypots with intelligence to analyze hacker behavior. Neel also programmed Assembly code in ARM and x86 to introduce hazards in the processor and researched side-channel analysis for defense mechanisms.

Neel Patel's education history begins in 2015 when they enrolled at Gujarat Technological University to pursue a Bachelor of Technology degree in Information Technology. Neel stayed there until 2019, completing their undergraduate studies.

In 2019, Neel Patel joined the University of Maryland - A. James Clark School of Engineering to pursue a Master of Engineering degree in Cybersecurity. Neel remained at the university until 2021, successfully completing their postgraduate studies.

In addition to their formal education, Neel Patel obtained certification as an Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP) from Offensive Security in October 2022. Prior to that, in May 2019, they received a certification in Machine Learning for Engineering and Science Application from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
