Steven McDonald

Senior Data Scientist at Precise TV

Steven McDonald has a diverse work experience with a focus on data science and geophysics. Steven is currently working as a Data Scientist at Precise TV starting from February 2022. Prior to this, they completed an MSc degree at University College London from September 2020 to September 2021.

In 2020, Steven was a Data Science Student at General Assembly, where they completed a 13-week immersive course covering various data science and machine learning topics. Steven successfully completed group and independent projects following agile methodologies. As part of their capstone project, they developed a machine learning model to predict the translator of Haruki Murakami's fiction.

From 2016 to 2020, Steven worked at CGG as a Senior Researcher. Steven coordinated the deployment of new technology, developed data analysis tools, and supervised Masters and PhD students in the use of neural networks for seismic data processing. Before that, they served as a Geophysical Advisor at CGG from 2014 to 2016, where they provided technical support for geophysicists, implemented fast track data processing projects, and collaborated with clients and colleagues. From 2007 to 2014, they held the position of Geophysical Advisor at CGG, where they performed significant feats such as the first onboard 2D PreSTM and designing and implementing an onboard 4D seismic QC flow. Prior to that, Steven was the Chief Geophysicist at CGG from 2005 to 2007, leading a team of 5 and serving as the technical point of contact during surveys. Steven also held roles as a Shift Leader and Project Leader Geophysicist at CGG from 2000 to 2005.

Steven McDonald's education history is as follows:

From 2020 to 2021, Steven attended UCL and obtained a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Data Science and Machine Learning. Before that, from 1999 to 2000, they attended the University of Leeds and obtained a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Exploration Geophysics. Steven's undergraduate education took place from 1995 to 1998 at The University of Manchester, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Physics.

In addition to their formal education, Steven has also obtained several certifications. In December 2021, they completed the "Introduction to Machine Learning in Production" course from Coursera. In September 2020, they completed the "Mathematics for Machine Learning: Linear Algebra" course from Coursera, and in August 2020, they completed the "Improving Deep Neural Networks: Hyperparameter tuning, Regularization and Optimization" course, also from Coursera. In February 2020, Steven obtained the "SQL Intermediate: Table Relations And Joins Course" certification from Dataquest.io.

Steven has also acquired various other certifications, such as the "GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test)" certification from Pearson in November 2019, the "TEF (FRENCH EVALUATION TEST) - C1 (Advanced)" certification from CCI France in November 2019, and the "BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction Emergency Training)" and "HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training)" certifications from OPITO in June 2018. Additionally, they completed the "Machine Learning" course from Coursera in June 2019 and the "Python for Data Science and Machine Learning Bootcamp" from Udemy in February 2019.

Lastly, in November 2015, Steven completed the "Introduction to Project Management" course from the Singapore Institute of Management.
