Maria José De La Torre Garbayo

Maria José de la Torre Garbayo is an experienced environmental specialist currently working at Preferred by Nature, focusing on forest and agricultural sustainability certification since April 2023. Prior to this role, Maria José served as a LIFE Programme Expert with NEEMO EEIG, where work involved project evaluation and monitoring related to climate change in various Spanish territories. An extensive career as an international consultant saw Maria José specializing as a Forests, Rivers, and Climate Change Expert, with involvement in sustainable management and restoration projects. Additional experience includes technical assistance for sustainable timber supply at Kingfisher plc and leadership roles in river restoration and forest management at various organizations. Maria José holds a degree in Forestry Engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, an M.Sc. in Tropical Forestry from Wageningen University, and a Master’s in sustainable river management from Universidad de Zaragoza.
