David Gruber

Founder and Project Lead, President Of Project Ceti at Project CETI (Cetacean Translation Initiative)

David Gruber is a Distinguished Professor of Biology and Professor of Environmental Sciences at the City University of New York, where interdisciplinary research focuses on marine biology, biophysics, climate science, and animal communication. As the founder and lead of Project CETI, a nonprofit organization, Gruber applies advanced technologies to decipher sperm whale communication. Contributions to National Geographic include serving as an Explorer and Chief Scientific Advisor for coral reef research. Gruber's research associateship at the American Museum of Natural History involves genomic studies related to coral biology. Educational accomplishments include a PhD in Biological Oceanography from Rutgers University, an M.S. in Journalism from Columbia University, and a Master of Environmental Management from Duke University.
