Lukas Franken

Lukas Franken is an Energy System Researcher at Project InnerSpace, focusing on Enhanced Geothermal Systems within a carbon-neutral US energy model. Prior experience includes roles as an Electricity Markets Researcher and Modelling Project Lead at Octopus Energy, where research involved the GB electricity market and optimal policy development. Lukas also contributed to the Centre for Net Zero, examining residential demand flexibility, and served as an Energy System Modelling Intern, utilizing the PyPSA-Eur model. Other significant roles include collaboration on applied machine learning at The Alan Turing Institute, leading AI initiatives for data acquisition in satellite imagery at PyPSA meets Africa, and research internships investigating urban travel impact and machine learning applications at Technische Universität Berlin and Fraunhofer IAIS. Academic credentials include a DPhil in Engineering from The University of Edinburgh and a Master’s degree in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics from the University of Cologne.
