Uwa Michael-Okafor

Uwa Michael-Okafor is the GM and Head of Human Resources at Promasidor (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd. Uwa has held this position since August 2017. Prior to that, they were the Human Resources and Legal Director at Promasidor Nigeria Limited from October 2019 to February 2022. From October 2015 to July 2017, they were the Performance and Reward Manager at Promasidor Nigeria Ltd.

Michael-Okafor has developed and implemented top quartile employee engagement initiatives such as Annual Recognition Awards, On-the-spot quarterly recognition Awards, and Team Bonding Day, as a business performance enhancer for outstanding talents. Uwa has also led a cross-functional team of 8 professionals to audit existing, and develop 25+ new, policies and procedures. In addition, they have developed and implemented talent capability initiatives using best practice approach of 70,20,10. Introduction of EXCOs integration development plan, Managers Academy, Senior Staff Academy, Junior Staff Academy and Engineering training school all run in-house successfully year on year. Finally, they have developed a harmonious relationship with the unions; managed two negotiation exercises and two redundancy exercises with zero backlash, bad publicity, or union litigation issues.

Uwa Michael-Okafor has a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Ebonyi State University. Uwa is certified by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) as an Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA). Uwa is also certified by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) as a Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR).

They are on a team with Hano Conradie - Group Technical Director, Murray Mackintosh - Group Creative Director, and Andrews Adjei Bodom - Head of Human Resources. Their manager is Olivier Thiry, Group CEO.
