Stephen Bergmeier has worked in the field of chemistry since 1982. Stephen began their career at Warner Lambert as an Associate Scientist. In 1991, they moved to the University of California, Berkeley, where they served as a Postdoctoral Associate. In 1993, they joined The Ohio State University as an Assistant Professor. In 2002, they became the COO and Director of Medicinal Chemistry at Promiliad Biopharma. In 2014, they were appointed as the Department Chair at Ohio University. In this role, they manage a budget of over $4MM, coordinates annual faculty review, and is responsible for the hiring of new faculty and staff. Stephen also provides oversight for the construction of a new chemistry building. Stephen's current research focuses on the development of new synthetic methods, new methods for high throughput organic synthesis, design and synthesis of new antibacterial agents, and the design and synthesis of novel anticancer agents.
Stephen Bergmeier obtained a BS in Chemistry from Iowa State University between 1974 and 1978. Stephen then went on to pursue a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Michigan from 1984 to 1990. Stephen also attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, though no degree was obtained.
