Mark Roberts has been working in the tech industry since 2009. Mark started out as a Software & Web Developer for an Independent Freelancer in 2009. In 2010 they became an Asst. Site Developer at the University of Chicago, where they developed a Ruby on Rails application for consuming and displaying 3rd-party APIs, and customized websites for display on mobile devices using JavaScript, CSS, and HTML5. Mark also wrote custom web scrapers to transform HTML pages into SQL for importing into Drupal. In 2013, they joined Twilio Inc. as a Software Engineer and eventually rose to the role of Senior Software Engineer. In the same company, they were also a Tech Lead, where they helped to design, plan, and develop Twilio's Programmable Video product. Mark focused on the JavaScript SDK and in designing the APIs and signaling protocols that would be used by other platform-specific SDKs (iOS, Android, and C++). Mark also spent a lot of time tracking changes to the WebRTC specifications, their implementations in the browsers, and various browser-specific WebRTC quirks. In 2019, they were promoted to Senior Tech Lead at Twilio Inc. and in 2021, they became Co-Founder at Propel Data Cloud.
Mark Roberts attended the University of Chicago from 2010 to 2013, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Prior to that, they attended the San Francisco Art Institute from 2008 to 2010, studying New Genres.
