Don Owens has a diverse work experience in communications, public relations, and advocacy. Don has held various roles in different organizations. In their most recent position as Vice President of Communications & Community at Prosperity Now, they are responsible for developing communication strategies aligned with the organization's advocacy around racial and ethnic economic justice. Previously, they served as the Chief of Staff in the President & CEO's Office, where they liaised with internal and external partners and supported initiatives related to organizational leadership. Don has also worked as a Director of Communications at Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Public Citizen, where they managed media relations and national broadcast outreach. Additionally, they have served as a Communications Consultant and Strategist for various non-profits and government officials. Don's experience also includes roles in the education sector, such as Director of Communications at Zero to Three and Director of Public Affairs at NAEYC. Throughout their career, they have demonstrated strong leadership, project management, and writing skills.

Don Owens completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Elon University. Prior to that, they attended Manteo High School, where they completed their general education. Currently, Don is pursuing a Masters degree in Strategic Leadership from St. Bonaventure University, with an expected completion date in 2023.
