Chief Technology Officer at Protein Evolution

Jay Konieczka has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Jay began their career as a co-founder and manager at Jupiter Records in 1998 and held this position till 2003. From 2002 to 2003, they also worked as a research assistant at the University of Texas at Austin. Jay then pursued their graduate studies at the University of Arizona, where they served as a graduate researcher from 2003 to 2008. During this time, they also held the role of lead instructor in bioinformatics for a semester.

After completing their graduate studies, Jay Konieczka worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University from 2008 to 2011 and at the Broad Institute from 2008 to 2013. At the Broad Institute, they also worked as a co-founder and COO at enEvolv from 2013 to 2020, overseeing operations and business development.

In 2020, Jay Konieczka joined Zymergen as a senior director of research biology and later promoted to vice president of research biology. Jay held these roles until 2022. Currently, they work as the Chief Technology Officer at Protein Evolution, starting in 2023.

Throughout their career, Jay Konieczka has gained expertise in various fields, including bioinformatics, research biology, and technology leadership.

Jay Konieczka completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Comparative Functional Genomics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2011 to 2013. Prior to that, they also completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Systems Biology at Harvard University from 2008 to 2011. Jay earned a PhD in Molecular & Cellular Biology with a focus on Computer Science and Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Arizona. Jay obtained a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Computer Science from The University of Texas at Austin.
