Mara Thomas

Mara Thomas has a diverse work experience in the fields of aquaculture, microbiology, and animal healthcare. Mara is currently working at Proteon Pharmaceuticals as the Head of Aquaculture Product Management, where they are responsible for developing and launching innovative and sustainable bacteriophage products for the aquaculture industry. In this role, they define product strategy, coordinates cross-functional teams, and ensures alignment with market trends and customer needs. Prior to this, Mara worked as an Aquaculture Project Manager at Proteon Pharmaceuticals, where they successfully managed end-to-end product development projects for a portfolio of aquaculture bacteriophage products. Mara developed project plans, timelines, and risk mitigation strategies, and coordinated cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.

Before joining Proteon Pharmaceuticals, Mara gained valuable experience as a Trainee in Development of Technological Processes, R&D at the same company. In this role, they acquired extensive knowledge of microbiological and diagnostic techniques, researched the effect of poultry's digestive tract on bacteriophage activity, and worked on formulation optimization. Mara also gained experience in isolating and extracting bacteriophages from environmental samples.

Prior to their work at Proteon Pharmaceuticals, Mara worked as a Dairy Cattle Healthcare Technician at Kail&Kail sc., where they administered treatment and vaccination programs, collaborated with veterinarians, and assisted in various aspects of animal husbandry. Mara also volunteered at the Dolphinarium at Attica Zoological Park S.A. for a brief period. Mara's earliest experience in the field was as an intern at Veterinaire.ch, where they gained insights into veterinary practices.

Mara Thomas completed their Bachelor of Science degree in BioVeterinary Science from Harper Adams University. Mara attended the university from 2017 to 2021, focusing on Animal Sciences.

In addition to their formal education, Mara also obtained certifications in Project Management. Mara completed the "Project 2021 and Project Online Desktop Essential Training" from LinkedIn in May 2022 and the "Project Management Principles and Practices Specialization" from Coursera in April 2022.
