Karen L. has a diverse work experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Karen began their career as a Pre-Clinical/Clinical Study Specialist at Allergan in 2009 and later worked as a Student Researcher at the University of Iowa Department of Pharmaceutics. Karen then gained clinical trial research experience as a Clinical Trial Research Assistant at The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. Karen continued to expand their skills as a Clinical Research Assistant at The University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics. Karen furthered their expertise in clinical development at Eli Lilly and Company as a Clinical Pharmacology Extern. Karen then joined Allergan again, taking on roles such as Manager, Clinical Development (CNS), and later Associate Director, Clinical Development (CNS) and (NASH). Karen also served as the Associate Director, Clinical Development for Zogenix, Inc., focusing on mitochondrial disease. Currently, Karen is the Director, Clinical Science at Prothena Corporation plc.

Karen L. has a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Biology from The Johns Hopkins University. Karen then attended the University of Iowa from 2010 to 2014, where they obtained their Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree. After completing their PharmD, Karen L. pursued a post-doctoral fellowship in Clinical Development at the University of Southern California from 2014 to 2015.
