Joel McCullough has a diverse work experience in the healthcare industry. Joel started their career as a Medical Director at the Chicago Department of Public Health from October 2001 to June 2008. Joel then joined the Spokane Regional Health District as a Health Officer and Public Health Director in April 2009. After serving in this role for several years, they moved on to work as the Medical Director of Community Health and Epidemiology at Providence Health Care in January 2016. Currently, Joel holds the position of Associate Medical Director at the Washington Department of Labor and Industries, starting from December 2018.

Joel McCullough's education history includes a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from Stanford University in 1982, a Doctor of Medicine from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1986, a Master of Science in Community Health and Preventive Medicine from the University of Iowa College of Public Health in 1990, and a Master of Public Health in Environmental Health from the University of Washington School of Public Health in 1995.
