Due to a strong demand for services in Australia, we are seeking a Surface Water Engineer to join our Brisbane office. The ideal candidate would be someone with 4 plus years of relevant working experience who is looking to hone their technical skills through exposure to industry leaders and a wide range of projects. Candidates with experience in other fields will also be considered if the candidate has suitable technical skills and ability to adapt into a new team.

About the role:

  • Working on surface water hydrological and hydraulic studies, including:
  • Rainfall-runoff modelling and analyses
  • Design of surface water infrastructure (e.g. drains, culverts, dissipators)
  • 1D and 2D hydraulic modelling
  • Erosion and fluvial geomorphology
  • Catchment yield analyses and water balance
  • Dam emergency storage and spillway design
  • Site visits, including flow gauging and instrument installation
  • The role will primarily be Brisbane based, but will from time to time, require operational deployments ranging from a few days to a few weeks at a time, throughout Australia and internationally.
  • Opportunities to get involved with other aspects of projects

Necessary skills:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Hydrology and Water Engineering
  • Strong technical focus with critical thinking.
  • Ability to communicate with colleagues and clients in an office-base and site-based environment
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership on projects
  • Proficiency in English

Desirable skills (and providing examples of what the candidate may gain exposure to):

  • Experience with modelling and analysis software
  • Post graduate degree (if not, additional post-graduate training may be offered by PSM)
  • Advanced software skills (i.e. ArcGIS / QGIS / Global Mapper / 3D packages)
  • Capabilities in hydrologic and hydraulic modelling (RORB, TUFLOW, HECRAS, GoldSim)
  • Coding skills (e.g. python, matlab, R)
  • Report writing
  • Experience with site based work and instrumentation
