Amitabh Singhal

Amitabh has over 36 years of work experience in both corporate and non-profit executive and leadership positions mostly in IT, Telecommunications and Internet sector. His interest in networking dates back to mid-80’s when he introduced the use of personal computers to select government and public sector organizations. He initiated the concept of local area networked computers to some of his client organizations. In the mid-90’s, he helped his company set up one of India’s first private commercial data networks to provide e-mail, EDI services, etc.

As a Co-Founder and then President of ISP Association of India, he became one of the pioneers of Internet industry, playing a key role in freeing the Internet from government monopoly. He authored and influenced key Internet/Telecom Licensing, Policy and Regulatory measures leading to wider proliferation of the Internet in India. In 2003, he became the Founder, Board Director and CEO of National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), setting up Internet Exchanges, .IN Domain Registry, Root Servers, etc. He is also on the Boards/AC’s of some NGO’s/Non Profits which work on ICT access to grassroots, primarily focusing on improving Governance standards. He previously completed two terms as PIR Board Director & Secretary.

He runs a consulting practice & has a startup investment in solar microgrids. He has a BA (Hons) & a Bachelor of Law degree, PG Diploma in Marketing and holds a Certificate in Corporate Directorship (his dissertation was on Building High Performance Boards).
