John Gates

John Gates is the Vice Provost for Diversity & Inclusion at Purdue University. John has previously served as the Associate Dean and Chief Diversity Officer of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia, and as a board member of Fenway Health. John has also served as the Associate Dean of Harvard College, Chief Financial, Human Resources and Diversity Officer, as well as the Executive Director of Global Operations and Assistant Provost at New York University.

John Gates has a PhD in Leadership and Organizational Behavior from the University of London, a Certificate in Institute of Educational Management from Harvard University Graduate School of Education, an MA in Higher Education/Higher Education Administration from New York University, and a BA in English from Morehouse College.

John Gates reports to Jay T. Akridge, Provost & EVP for Academic Affairs & Diversity. John Gates works with Kristina Wong Davis - Vice Provost for Enrollment Management & Dean of Admissions, Cherise Hall - Vice Provost for Finance and Strategic Initiatives, and Gary Bertoline - SVP, Purdue Online and Learning Innovation.
