Sinclair Barkell's work experience begins in 2002 when they started as an IT Project Delivery Analyst and eventually became an IT Manager - VIP Support at Colonial First State. In 2007, they joined Colonial First State Global Asset Management as a High Priority Incident Manager, managing incidents related to business-critical IT systems. In 2009, they moved to CommInsure as a High Priority Incident Manager, where they continued to oversee the resolution of high-priority IT incidents. In 2010, they joined the Commonwealth Bank of Australia as an IT Service Delivery Manager for their Wealth Management division. In 2011, they joined (CFSGAM) Colonial First State Global Asset Management once again, this time as a Global IT Operating Environment Manager. In 2015, they were promoted to Head of IT - EMEA, responsible for managing IT and the department for First State Investments in the EMEA region. In 2019, they shifted to Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) as a Senior Manager - Technology Operations, and later became the Head of Technology Operations. Lastly, in 2021, they started working at QIC as a Program Manager - Real Estate Asset Technology, and eventually became the Head of Technology Services - Real Estate in 2022.

Sinclair Barkell attended Anglican Church Grammar School (Churchie) from 1984 to 1991. In 2006 and 2007, they pursued a Diploma in Financial Markets from Kaplan Professional. Later, in 2014, Sinclair Barkell participated in the Developing the Strategic Manager program at AGSM @ UNSW Business School. In terms of additional certifications, they obtained the ECMS1 certification from Cisco Meraki in July 2022, and the ITIL Foundation Certificate v3 from ITIL in 2010.
