Gunter Hartel, PhD has over two decades of experience in the field of statistics. Gunter is currently the Head of Statistics at the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, a position they have held since 2017. Prior to this, Dr. Hartel worked as the Principal Statistician at Clinical Network Services (CNS) Pty Ltd from 2016 to 2017.

Before joining CNS, they ran their own statistical consulting business called Hartel Consulting, where they provided expert statistical advice and analysis for all phases of clinical and non-clinical pharmaceutical and biotechnology development.

From 2000 to 2014, they held multiple positions at CSL Limited / CSL Behring, including Director Quantitative Sciences and Methodology, Global Director Biostatistics, and Head Biostatistics / Chief Statistician. In these roles, they were responsible for ensuring the scientific integrity and consistency of clinical trials, managing global clinical biostatistics departments, and leading ambitious global clinical development programs.

Dr. Hartel has also worked as a Lecturer and Biostatistician at the University of Queensland from 1997 to 2000, where they taught biostatistics and provided statistical consulting to professors and researchers. Prior to that, they worked as a Lecturer at Queensland University of Technology, teaching introductory and advanced courses in biostatistics.

Throughout their career, Dr. Hartel has demonstrated expertise in statistical design and methodology, providing expert advice in drug development, clinical trials, and regulatory considerations. Gunter has contributed to numerous successful registrations and listings for pharmaceutical products and has mentored and supervised research students.

Gunter Hartel, PhD, obtained their education from various institutions over the years. Gunter started their academic journey at Red Rocks Community College, where they earned an Associate's Degree in Computer Science from 1982 to 1984. Gunter then transferred to Metropolitan State University of Denver from 1984 to 1985, pursuing Mathematics and Computer Science. Following this, Gunter attended the University of Colorado Denver from 1985 to 1987, where they completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics. Later, they joined Colorado State University, where from 1988 to 1991, they earned a Master of Science in Statistics. Finally, Gunter pursued further studies at Colorado State University from 1991 to 1995, culminating in the award of a PhD in Statistics.
