Mary Williams

Mary Williams is the President of the QinetiQ Inc., the US business unit of QinetiQ Plc. She is a recognized thought-leader in the area of sensor technologies and the application of those technologies to solve real world problems. In her current role, Ms. Williams manages a team of more than 700 employees delivering rapid solutions with a focus on mission-led innovation.

Ms. Williams began her career in Government Service for the National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC) as a radar engineer and intelligence analyst. She joined EOIR Technologies in 1995 as a Principal and held various technical and leadership positions supporting spectral programs throughout DoD and IC at such organizations such as NVESD, NGA and NGIC. Ms. Williams is a leading technologist in the field of airborne spectrometry as well as an accomplished business innovator. Ms. Williams led the development of several pioneering air and ground hyperspectral systems that advanced the state-of-the-art of spectral technologies, including the first operational airborne Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI) payload. Since then, she has served as a business and technical lead on multiple others for ground- and airborne sensing for the defense and intelligence communities.

After acquiring MTEQ and becoming its president in 2006, Mary Williams took its electronics manufacturing capability and turned the firm into a full-lifecycle engineering company to rapidly create novel sensing prototypes and deliver them to the U.S. Army and Intelligence Community. Under her leadership, MTEQ grew from a single electronics plant in rural Virginia to a respected system designer with a strong presence in the National Capital Region and an international presence in combat theaters. She instilled a robust IRAD program at MTEQ to ensure that it remained on the leading edge of defense technology in fields like AI. Under her leadership, MTEQ reached 370 employees and $175 M in annual revenue and acquired 6 patents in sensing technology.

Ms. Williams holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering with a focus in image and signal processing from Virginia Polytechnical Institute and a bachelor’s in computer science. Ms. Williams took post-graduate courses in image processing from Rochester Institute of Technology.
