Principal Systems Engineer at QinetiQ

Boris Samaru has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning over several companies and roles. Boris started their career in 1989 with the UK Ministry of Defense as part of the Defense Engineering Graduate Scheme. Boris then worked as a Higher Professional Technology Officer at the Defense Research Agency from 1989 to 1994. Boris later joined GEC Marconi Ltd as a Senior System Analyst and Designer, specializing in Avionics system analysis and design.

In 1995, Boris joined IBM UK as a Senior Requirements/Test Analyst, where they held various roles including Requirements Manager, Test Team Lead, and Senior Test Analyst for major Aerospace and Naval Comms projects. Boris worked at IBM UK until 2013 before transitioning to Lockheed Martin UK as a System Integration & Test Engineer, contributing to projects such as Royal Mail Intelligent Barcodes and Geospatial & Imaging.

From 2014 to 2018, Boris worked at QinetiQ as a Senior System Engineer and Senior System Engineer Consultant, primarily focusing on maritime programs and bid proposals. Boris then joined NATS in 2018 as a System Verification & Validation Engineer and continued their work there until 2020, taking on responsibilities for system integration and testing, as well as leading the integration and testing of airfield simulators.

Returning to QinetiQ in 2020, Boris served as a System Engineering Consultant and later became a Principal System Engineer, contributing to system engineering projects. In 2022, Boris returned to NATS as a System Engineer for the Airport Transformation Program, where they specialized in concept and innovation work for future Air Traffic Control initiatives and played a key role in solution proposals, architectures, and security risk assessments.

Most recently, Boris rejoined QinetiQ in 2023 as a Principal Systems Engineer, contributing their expertise to their projects. Throughout their career, Boris has demonstrated expertise in system engineering, integration and testing, bid proposals, requirements management, and analysis and design.

Boris Samaru obtained a B Eng (Hons) degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from the University of Hertfordshire from 1983 to 1987. Prior to that, they attended Richmond upon Thames Tertiary College from 1981 to 1983. Boris completed their secondary education at Teddington School from 1976 to 1981 and their primary education at Collis Primary School from 1972 to 1976. In addition to their formal education, Boris has obtained certifications, including TOGAF® 9 Level 1 (Foundation) from The Open Group in 2022, ISTQB Advanced Test Analyst from ISTQB® - International Software Testing Qualifications Board in 2011, and ISTQB Foundation Test Analyst from ISTQB® - International Software Testing Qualifications Board in 2007.
