POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Translational Research Associate will be a member of the Preclinical and Translational Research (PTR) Department and will primarily be focused on ensuring the sample collection and assay conduct for the immunological and exploratory endpoints of Qu’s clinical trials are performed correctly. This requires being highly organized, detail oriented, and having proficiency in working with clinical samples as well as following laboratory and clinical protocols. The Translational Research Associate will report directly to the Associate Director, PTR and work closely with the Clinical Department to ensure sample collection and processing is performed according to the study protocol, applicable regulatory and ethical requirements, and institutional policies.

Specific duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Following standard operating procedures to process human blood samples for the isolation of Peripheral Blood Monocytic Cells (PBMCs) and collection of plasma and serum
  • Maintaining accurate specimen processing and inventory records in accordance with Good Clinical Practice guidelines
  • Coordinating, tracking, and maintaining documentation for specimen shipments to external research laboratories
  • Quantifying cytokine levels in patient plasma by Ella, an automated ELISA system
  • Driving to local sites in the Lower Mainland to collect clinical samples for processing
  • Ordering laboratory reagents and maintaining equipment necessary for processing trial samples
  • Communicating updates on the status of sample collection to trial staff in a clear, concise, and professional manner
  • Participating in study start-up activities
  • Attending meetings related to monitoring enrollment, identifying and problem-solving recruitment and/or other challenges in trial conduct, creating and implementing strategies to meet study objectives and timelines, ensuring protocol adherence, quality in trial conduct, and risk mitigation
  • Participating in trial monitoring visits and attending to any follow-up items
  • Other duties as necessary

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree in medical laboratory sciences or equivalent
  • Biosafety and Chemical Safety Certifications
  • Legally able to work in Canada
  • A minimum of 1 year of practical experience working with clinical trial specimens
  • Demonstrated experience isolating PBMCs and plasma from human blood
  • Competency with computers and videoconferencing (Outlook, Word, Excel, Zoom)
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills, meticulous record keeping and highly organized
  • Experience using statistical methods to analyze data
  • Valid BC Driver’s License

Please note the general work hours are Monday to Friday, (8:30 am to 5 pm) but there may be need for the occasional late evening and weekend hours, as typical in a research lab environment.

COMPENSATION

Salary commensurate with experience; range $60,000 - $75,000. Three (3) weeks annual vacation and benefits.
