Leonardo de Oliveira Martins has extensive work experience in the field of research and academia. Leonardo is currently serving as the Head of Phylogenomics at Quadram Institute since December 2018. Prior to that, they worked as a Senior SNSF Researcher at UNIL - Université de Lausanne from March 2016 to November 2018. Leonardo also served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Imperial College London from April 2015 to February 2016. Leonardo's work experience also includes being a Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Vigo from March 2009 to April 2015 and an Appointed (fixed-term) Professor at the University of Tokyo from September 2007 to February 2009. Leonardo started their career as a Database administrator at Universidade de São Paulo in 2002.

After that, they pursued further education and completed their Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Biotechnology from USP from 1999 to 2002.

Leonardo continued their academic journey by enrolling in The University of Tokyo from 2004 to 2008, where they obtained a Ph.D. degree in Agricultural and Environmental Biology. During this period, they focused on expanding their knowledge and expertise in the field.
