Joe Ippolito

Senior Staff Scientist at Quantum-Si

Joe Ippolito has a diverse work experience in the field of research and drug design. Joe is currently working as a Senior Staff Scientist at Quantum-Si since May 2022. Prior to this, Joe worked at Yale University as an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Chemistry from October 2019 to May 2022.

Before their time at Yale, Joe was associated with Melinta Therapeutics where they held various roles including Research Director, Associate Research Director, and Principal Scientist in the field of Structure-Based Drug Design. Joe worked at Melinta Therapeutics from August 2011 to January 2019.

Joe also gained significant experience at Rib-X Pharmaceuticals, Inc., where they worked as a Senior Scientist II, Senior Scientist I, and Research Scientist I in the field of Structure-Based Drug Design from July 2001 to August 2011.

Joe began their professional career as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Yale University from April 1995 to July 2001. During this time, Joe conducted research on HIV TAR RNA and HIV RRE RNA elements, developing a novel "iterative-approach" molecular replacement method for determining structures of small RNA molecules under the guidance of Prof. Thomas A. Steitz.

Joe Ippolito's education history includes earning a Bachelor of Arts - BA in Biochemistry from the University of Pennsylvania, which they completed between 1986 and 1990. Joe subsequently pursued further education at the same university and earned a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Chemistry between 1990 and 1995.
