Jak Barnes has a diverse work experience in the gaming industry. Jak started their career as a Software Developer at Abzorb in August 2015 and worked there until August 2016. Jak then joined NEW STAR GAMES LIMITED as a Graduate Game Programmer in July 2017 and stayed until January 2018. In March 2018, Jak worked as a Programmer at Just Add Water (Development), Ltd. until October 2018. From November 2018 to December 2020, they worked as a Game Programmer at Cooperative Innovations Ltd, focusing on gameplay, AI, tools, systems, and localization. Most recently, Jak is employed at Radical Forge, starting in January 2021, where they have held the roles of Senior Gameplay Engineer and currently Senior Unreal Engineer. During their time at Radical Forge, Jak played a significant role in the development and release of Sea of Thieves, including notable achievements like 'A Pirates Life' and Season 7: Captaincy. Jak also contributed to new gameplay features, performance optimization, and accessibility improvements.
Jak Barnes attended Morecambe Community High School from 2006 to 2011 and successfully completed their GCSE's with grades A-C. From 2011 to 2013, Jak attended Morecambe Community High School 6th Form, where they studied ICT, Business, Mathematics, and Physics. Finally, from 2013 to 2017, Jak pursued a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Computer Games Programming at The University of Huddersfield.
