Mark McAleer has a diverse work experience in the fields of biology, laboratory science, and education. Mark began their career in 2011 as a Biology Lecturer at Sunderland College, where they planned, taught, and evaluated lessons for A-Level, BTEC Applied Science, and GCSE students. Mark then worked at St Joseph's Grammar School, Donaghmore as a Biology Teacher, taking on responsibilities for planning and delivering lessons to Key Stage 3, GCSE, and A-Level students.
In 2015, McAleer joined Methodist College Belfast as a Laboratory Technician and Substitute Teacher. Their role involved providing support in the delivery of taught lessons within the Physics department and covering classes when necessary. Mark held this position until 2018.
Moving forward, McAleer was a Laboratory Technician at Northern Regional College from May 2019 to January 2020. Here, they planned and delivered practical sessions to support the primary lecturers and carried out research work for their Master's degree at AFBI labs in Stormont. Following this, they worked as a Biology Lecturer at Belfast Metropolitan College, teaching BTEC Applied Science, Adult Access, and GCSE courses from November 2019 to January 2020.
From January 2020 to December 2021, McAleer took on the role of Biology Lecturer at Southern Regional College, where they taught Biology across various levels and qualification types, including BTEC Applied Science, Access courses, GCSE, and Foundation degree linked to the Apprentice Scheme.
In 2021, McAleer joined Randox as a Validations Scientist, tasked with validating scientific processes. Mark then progressed to become a Lab Manager, where they served as a laboratory technician and analyst in the Covid-19 PCR lanes, eventually becoming the Deputy Lab Manager responsible for the Randox Mobile Units in the UK and the Island of Ireland.
Throughout their career, Mark McAleer has demonstrated expertise in biology, laboratory techniques, teaching, and leadership roles in scientific and educational institutions.
Mark McAleer began their education in 2006 at Ulster University, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. From 2010 to 2011, they attended the University of Sunderland and completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Science with a specialization in Biology. Following this, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at Queen's University Belfast from 2018 to 2019, with a focus on Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
