Steve Dias is the Senior Director of Software Engineering at Realtime Robotics. Steve has over 20 years of experience in the software industry, including stints at top companies like Alert Innovation.
At Alert, Steve led the software organization through a period of challenging company growth and product development transition. Steve was responsible for software teams across all product components, while also serving as product lead for the automation control software. This included order and inventory management, bot task scheduling, optimal bot motion and collision avoidance, and communication with all devices on-premises and outside system.
Under Steve's leadership, the software team grew from 30 to 60+, through a combination of high-performing permanent hires and multiple contract teams in US and near-shore (Mexico). Steve established entirely new teams for Automation Testing (SDET), Data Analytics, and Cloud development/deployment.
Steve utilized Agile principles and metrics to guide improvements in delivery performance for software teams, using Lean and Scrum processes. Steve established practices such as design documentation requirement, unit testing introduction (from initially zero, to 80% target, to >90% achieved), formalized code review process, and introduced static analysis and code quality gates as part of development workflow. Steve also defined the Open Source Software policy.
In addition, Steve expanded simulation tools to more accurately represent production environment. Steve designed the automation framework and introduced automation testing with continuous integration, as steps to move from entirely manual build
Steve Dias has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Cornell University.
