Allen Sickmier

Senior Director; Head of Protein Sciences and Structural Biology at Recludix Pharma

Allen Sickmier has over 20 years of experience in protein sciences and structural biology. From 1999 to 2003, they were a Graduate Student in Stephen White's Lab at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, where they gained extensive experience in the entire spectrum of crystallization, from cloning to structure determination. During this time they used PCR to retrieve several genes of interest from the bacteriophage T4 genome, and subcloned, expressed, and purified these proteins. From 2003 to 2005, they were a Scientist-Protein Crystallographer at Biogen. From 2006 to 2018, they were a Senior Scientist at Amgen, where they were responsible for protein structure determination to support small molecule drug discovery and antibody projects, fragment-based lead discovery, and structure determination using molecular replacement, MAD, and SAD phasing techniques. Allen also conducted protein purification using affinity purification, ion exchange, and size exclusion chromatography. From 2018 to 2022, they were the Director and Head of Protein and Structural Sciences at Accent Therapeutics, Inc. Currently, they are the Senior Director and Head of Protein Sciences and Structural Biology at Recludix Pharma.

Allen Sickmier completed a Post Doctoral program in Protein Crystallography (Protein nucleic acid interactons) at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine from 2003 to 2005. Prior to that, they earned a Ph.D. in Biochemistry/Structural Biology (St Jude Childrens Research Hospital) from The University of Tennessee Health Science Center from 1998 to 2003. Allen also obtained a M.S. in Molecular Biology from The University of Memphis from 1995 to 1998.
