Ian Drennan has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies and roles. Ian started their career at Charles River Laboratories, where they worked as a Software Developer and later as a Senior Software Engineer. Ian then moved on to Pallas Technologies, where they served as a Senior Software Developer and Consultant, leading various mission-critical projects for clients in the Financial, Law, and Private Aviation sectors.
After that, Ian joined Flight-1, LLC as a Performance Designs Factory Member, where they competed in national and international skydiving competitions while also coaching and training others. Ian later joined FlightBridge as a Principal Software Engineer and Senior Software Architect, responsible for gathering system requirements, leading development efforts, conducting code reviews, and implementing testing.
Ian then transitioned to Owners.com, where they worked as a Manager of Software Development and Lead Engineer, leading the implementation of a new backend platform on a Microsoft Service Fabric. This platform consisted of 26 Microservices and resulted in a significant performance increase.
Next, they joined VMware as a Senior Member of Technical Staff, where they designed and led the Device Shadow Initiative, a microservice project for processing data from managed devices. Ian also served as a Staff Engineer, responsible for designing and leading the Microservices platform for modernizing the legacy stack.
Currently, Ian is working at Red Canary, where they hold the role of Senior Software Engineering Manager and has recently been promoted to the position of Director of Software Engineering.
Ian Drennan attended Nelson Mandela University from 1994 to 1998, where they pursued a degree in Financial Information Systems. Ian'sstudies focused on Software Engineering, Database Development, Cost Accounting, and Financial Accounting. Prior to their university education, Ian Drennan attended Alexander Road High School from 1989 to 1994.
