The Director, Scientific Services is primarily responsible for planning, development, and oversight of scientific content for an assigned account or accounts across a range of therapeutic areas, to address different target audiences. Content may be delivered through a variety of print and electronic media outlets, including, articles, slide presentations, executive summaries, eLearning platforms, data repositories, and Web applications. The Director is accountable for providing clients with strategic medical communication recommendations that support the achievement of brand goals in the marketplace.
Responsibilities range from being the independent lead executing content development activities and liaising with other in-house or freelance staff to managing writing and other content-related tasks, such as conducting background research, data-checking, and reference annotation. The desired candidate will be highly strategic in practice with the ability to quickly process information in order to accurately translate and deliver to the target audience. Scheduling flexibility, timeline prioritization skills, PowerPoint proficiency, and keen attention to detail are essential for success in this role. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plans, develops, writes, and edits materials as assigned
Conducts research on assigned topics and secures references
Thoroughly edits and revises own work and collaborates to resolve errors or concerns, saving time in editorial review process
Collaborates with internal and client teams to help identify creative solutions to fulfill client vision and goals; contributes significantly to timeline and resource planning to meet deliverable milestones
Informally mentors others in-house (fellows/interns) and contract medical writing resources according to project needs, delegating assignments and revising material to ensure consistency and cohesion of scope and message
Completes formal review submissions into appropriate platform and joins medical, legal, regulatory review process as needed
Maintains a current knowledge of industry trends and standards and key medical topics and terminology in order to serve as a credible resource to internal and client teams
Applies creative, critical thinking skills to problem solve in a variety of situations
Participates in leadership of clinical aspects during strategic planning and project meetings with internal and client teams, gathering information and assessing client expectations on assigned initiatives, connecting science with strategy
Helps build and maintain client relationships, partnering with account teams to build confidence in service offerings; exhibits a professional image and demeanor, demonstrating adaptability and dedication to exceptional client service, and displays a solutions-oriented approach
Partners with internal team and provides onsite support at key client meetings or events
About You
Education
Experience
Clinical content development and writing experience preferred, with focus in a healthcare marketing agency setting (~2-3 years preferred); this can include but is not limited to development of unbranded, branded, promotional slide decks, advisory boards, core claims documents, or eLearning
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Expert writing and editorial skills with a high level of AMA style and medical terminology expertise
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel and, in particular, PowerPoint
Familiarity with virtual meeting software (eg, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, GoTo Meeting, Skype for Business, WebEx, Adobe Connect, etc)
Proven organizational and timeline prioritization skills; scheduling flexibility to accommodate work volumes and the ability to manage multiple assignments
Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently or collaborate as part of a team, whenever appropriate
