What does a day look like in my role?

We get it: You want to know what you’re signing up for before you apply, right? This is what you need to know: As a Director of Software Engineering, you’ll be responsible for leading a talented team of software engineers and software engineering managers who are responsible for designing and implementing SaaS products in the marketing technology industry. This role will balance people management, leadership, and technical guidance with a strategic mindset. You’ll work closely with the leadership team to align business strategies with technology strategies to deliver reliable, effective, and efficient solutions. To succeed in this role, you will have a passion for Agile software development, foster a culture of collaboration and innovation, and possess a strong background in the SaaS space. This role will report to the CEO and work alongside the rest of the leadership team to determine company priorities and direction. 

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Setting the team vision.You understand the direction of the company, align, and translate it into a team plan.

  • Lead the engineering team and managers within a nimble product organization, utilizing Agile product development methodologies.

  • Delivering business impact, focusing on time to value without impacting quality.

  • You work with product, design, and customer experience partners to identify success metrics, and design to optimize delivery of product capabilities, and opportunities to learn and iterate.

  • Identify new digital capabilities and emerging technologies and assess their impact, opportunities and threats, to shape the strategic direction of technology innovation efforts.

  • Promote industry best practices for architecture, software development, deployment, and security.

  • Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity.

  • Establish processes and metrics upholding a culture of high standards and accountability.

  • Building and growing the team. You attract top talent to the shared vision of the team and can create and refine the team structure to scale. At the same time, you mentor, and coach individual contributors to grow both technically and managerially.

  • Collaborating with and influencing other teams. You share and communicate plans and outcomes with external teams and understand and align team goals to collectively deliver results efficiently.

  • Establishing a software delivery strategy for your team by leveraging agile and other best practices in the industry.

  • Identifying areas of inefficiency and implementing new processes to unblock them.

After 1 week

  • You will be onboarded with the engineering and leadership teams and get a sense of how you fit within the company
  • You will be introduced to your team in a group and in 1 on 1s
  • You will be getting familiar with Leadpages’ products and processes
  • You will become familiar with our development environment and repositories

After 1 month

  • You will know all members of the Product and Engineering teams and understand who to ask for what
  • You will be introduced to our product roadmap and understand where you can make the greatest impact
  • You will find a rhythm with your direct reports and start to define plans for meeting their unique needs

After 6 months

  • You will feel confident in your role and will be contributing on many fronts
  • You have built a strong rapport with your team and are helping them learn and grow in their roles
  • You will have offered valuable insights into engineering processes and are actively contributing to ongoing improvements
  • You are actively communicating with your peers on the leadership team and cross-departmentally disseminating information appropriately

  

What we would like to see in you

Every Redbricker has three things in common: We’re curious, hungry, and good-humoured. We try our best to balance hard work with good, old-fashioned fun. As the Director of Software Engineering with Leadpages, there are extra specialties we’re on the lookout for:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 10+ years of software industry experience
  • 6+ years leading an engineering team
  • Proven experience delivering SaaS products
  • Experience with large scale applications in a cloud platform, with preferred experience on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Familiarity with our current tech stack, Python, React.js
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to communicate with executives
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Experience in hiring, mentoring and leading
  • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Innovative and forward-thinking, decisive and action-oriented, flexible and proactive
