About the Role:

Are you looking for a challenging role where you can utilize your expertise in financial accounting? 

The key overall objective of the Senior Accountant is to provide essential financial accounting support to the Manager, Financial Reporting. This role involves a diverse range of responsibilities, including day-to-day accounting activities, timely financial statement preparation, technical accounting analysis, and maintaining internal controls.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute day-to-day accounting activities of the company, encompassing general ledger maintenance, payables, receivables, trust accounts, cost of goods sold, revenue, and costs to complete.

  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and note disclosure in compliance with relevant regulations and accounting principles.

  • Develop position papers on technical accounting matters and promptly record associated entries.

  • Analyze gross margin, costs to complete, and warranty provisions.

  • Maintain adherence to accounting policies and propose changes as needed.

  • Define and maintain reporting structure within ERP system.

  • Support external accountants, auditors, and consultants as required.

  • Lead and manage month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.

  • Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Work closely with external auditors and tax advisors during audits and tax filings.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the finance team.

  • Drive change and process optimization as required.

  • Handle other ad hoc requests aligned with the responsibilities of the role.

About You:

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in financial accounting.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation is a valuable asset.

  • Direct industry experience within real estate (e.g., home building, development, property management) asset.

  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

  • Familiarity with Newstar and Yardi, as well as knowledge of SQL and InformXL, is an asset.

  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and make recommendations.

  • Highly organized with the ability too prioritize tasks and process large volumes of information.

  • Professional with an excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration across departments.
